Dear Senator,
The greatest gifts in life are our children. We, as a society, should protect our future, as we protect our children. A mother should be held responsible for the well-being of their unborn children. Children are gifts that need to be protected, and sometimes mothers do things that are harmful to their unborn children, therefore society should be able to take action against these mothers.
The choices that mothers make while they are pregnant affect the well-being of their child. A child doesn’t choose to come into this world. A child doesn’t get to choose the most important people in their lives; their family. A beautiful gift from god should be valued above all else. A baby is a true miracle and you can’t look at it as something that happens every day. Each baby is amazing in their own way and all children should be given the same opportunities. Unborn children need a mother who will provide them with a healthy living environment, such as eating healthy and avoiding smoking and drinking.
If a mother chooses not to provide the best living environment while a baby is growing in the mothers uterus, then authorities should be able to step in and punish the mother. Drinking while pregnant is the number one cause of birth defects. Fetal alcohol syndrome is one hundred percent preventable. Children born with fetal alcohol syndrome will most likely face a lifetime of medical complications all because their mother choose
to be selfish and not put their unborn child first. An unborn child has no say in the choices their mother make, therefore society should be able to protect and look out for the baby’s best interest. Smoking and drinking while carrying an unborn child should be against the law. Smoking while pregnant can cause the unborn child to be born with underdeveloped lungs, chronic breathing problems, and the child may never be able to run in P.E. class with all the other children. Smoking and drinking while pregnant is a series risk toward a baby’s health.
If the mother is not held responsible for the actions they take toward their baby’s health, than who should be held responsible? A mother who chooses to smoke or drink while pregnant is putting their baby at risk for future health problems that can be fatal. In the world we face many obstacles and a baby who was introduced to tobacco and alcohol while in the uterus is starting their life with many more obstacles, although they could have been so very easily avoidable. A mother who chooses to smoke and drink while pregnant should be required to take parenting classes. If the mother is caught more than once smoking or drinking they should receive jail time so they can be monitored. While in jail they would not be able to smoke or drink. I think a law should be passed to protect the well-being of our children.
Children are our miracles that need to be protected, and when mothers do things that are harmful to their unborn children, society should then be able to take action against these mothers. As a society, we need to protect our miracles. Mothers should be held responsible for their young child and the young child’s health. If children had a voice and knew better, don’t you think they would ask their mother not to smoke or drink. We
must be the voice of the children. If we take action to protect the children, altogether we can provide children with unlimited opportunity for success. I want to thank you for taking the time to ready my point of view on this topic, that is very important to me.
